The annual Maidenhead Boundary Walk once again brought the community together in an incredible show of support for good causes, with 618 walkers lacing up their boots for the 13-mile “beating the bounds” tradition on Sunday 5th October.

This year saw a fantastic increase of more than 100 walkers compared to last year, with 531 completing the full route and 87 enjoying the shorter family-friendly walk, highlighting the event’s growing popularity among local residents, schools, and community groups.

Organised by the Rotary Clubs of Maidenhead Bridge, Maidenhead and Maidenhead Thames, with invaluable support from the Maidenhead Civic Society and GoodGym, the event continues to uphold a cherished local tradition while making a real difference for charities.

At the time of writing, walkers have collectively raised an impressive £20,000 for 47 different charities, with donations still coming in. In addition, the event itself is expected to raise around £3,000 for its two chosen charities – Thames Valley Hospice and Age UK Berkshire.

There were several standout achievements this year:
  • Highest Individual Fundraiser: Richard Poad, who raised £1,500 in aid of Maidenhead Heritage Centre and Alzheimer’s Society.
  • Group with raising the most Sponsorship: Berkshire Vision, with an incredible £4,500 raised.
  • Group with Most Walkers: Cookham Dean Primary School, with a fantastic turnout of 68 participants.

Behind the scenes, the event relied on the dedication of its volunteers. A total of 63 volunteers contributed an impressive 227½ hours of service, helping with everything from manning checkpoints and stewarding road crossings to registering walkers and providing refreshments. Their commitment and teamwork ensured the event ran smoothly and safely for everyone involved.

Event organiser Lisa Hunter expressed her delight at the growing enthusiasm for the walk: “Every year, we’re amazed by the number of people who come together to take part in the Boundary Walk. It’s wonderful to see families, schools, and community groups walking side by side, all raising money for causes close to their hearts. The generosity, effort, and spirit shown by both our walkers and volunteers truly make this event special.”

The walk was officially started by Archana Nath, President of Maidenhead Bridge Rotary; Mark Loader, President of Maidenhead Thames Rotary; Joshua Reynolds, MP for Maidenhead; the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Mandy Kaur Brar ; and representatives of the two chosen charities.

As in recent years, walkers benefited from the Zuvolo app, which helped guide participants along the route and allowed organisers to monitor progress for safety and support.

Archana Nath, President of Maidenhead Bridge Rotary Club, added: “The Boundary Walk is such a positive event for our town – it combines community spirit, physical challenge, and fundraising in the best possible way. We’re so proud to see it continue to grow and support even more charities each year.”

Now in its 43rd consecutive year since being revived by Maidenhead Rotary, the Maidenhead Boundary Walk remains one of the area’s most-loved community fundraisers, bringing together people of all ages to celebrate local history while making a lasting impact for others.
