Thank you to our sponsors

This project has the following principle aims:
  1. Rotary’s Got Talent will help Rotary reach a new audience by creating a unique live-stream experience fit for the modern world.
  2. Rotary’s Got Talent will help empower people to expand their horizons.
  3. Rotary’s Got Talent will help rebuild lives now & build brighter futures for tomorrow.

We cannot achieve these aims alone. We need business partners to connect with us to not only reach our targets but smash them. In return business partners receive marketing and publicity to help support their enterprise as well as an opportunity to belong to part of an ever expanding network of people working together to make a difference.

Our Nepal Project: Supporting Saurpani Primary School

Picture
Following the devastating impact of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal and with many members of our club personally connected to the country, we were seeking to support with long term sustainable solutions.  In 2017 club member Claire Booth joined the Rotary Club of Faringdon and District on a visit to Nepal, hosted by the Rotary Club of Kopundol in Kathmandu.  We visited a potential project, our partnership began and the road to recovery was paved.

Saurpani Primary School: The road to recovery began literally on an almost impassable road to Saurpani – an uphill trek and an unforgettable tractor ride to reach the school on our 2017 first site visit.  Saurpani village of Gorkha is 188 kms northwest of Kathmandu in the Himalayan region, south of Manaslu Conservation area in the Barpak area, famous for the Gurkhas and the epicentre of the 2015 earthquake.

Shree Saurpani Samudayik Smriti Primary School is a community school operating since 2007.  The school has 8 teachers and 160 children enrolled in primary classes, a drop from more than 200 pupils just before the 2015 earthquake, which devastated the school buildings and displaced some families to city centres for their children’s education. The earthquake completely destroyed or badly damaged the school buildings.  The academic year from last April has also been affected by Covid-19 lockdowns.

Phase 1: In partnership with other UK Rotary clubs we helped to fund the reconstruction of a three classroom teaching block to earthquake resilient standards based on the Nepali Government design criteria.  Phase 1 also included a new water and sanitation system and re-equipment of the school.  The total investment in Phase 1 of the project was £15,750 and was completed in 2019.

Phase 2: Kopundol Rotary Club has requested our support for Phase 2 of the project. The plan comprises both infrastructure development and components to enhance and improve the quality of education in the entire region including teacher training, e-learning, adult literacy and child development.  The overall cost of Phase 2 is £20,000 with the planned Rotary contribution £12,500, we are now fundraising for this next phase.

We Would Love to meet You Soon!
